Secure Invoicing: How we keep your payments safe
Secure invoicing is about more than payments – it’s about trust. Learn how Tietoevry protects data, privacy, and customer confidence in every invoice.
When you receive an invoice whether it’s by email, SMS, online/mobile banking or payment app you expect it to be genuine, private, and easy to pay.
At the same time, you want the process to be smooth and accessible, no matter your needs or abilities.
For industries like finance, insurance, energy, and telecom, invoicing is no longer just about collecting payments. It’s a moment of truth, a digital handshake between company and customer. Behind every secure invoice lies a network of systems, policies, and people working to keep that trust intact.
Why security matters
Securing invoices isn’t as simple as locking them in a digital vault. Invoices travel across different channels: email, SMS, payment apps and online banking, and each has its own risks. For instance, sending digital invoices unencrypted can expose them to interception or tampering. There have been cases where criminals altered invoice details, redirecting payments to their own accounts.
“Security and inclusion belong together. When digital invoices are both safe and accessible, everyone gains — customers, businesses, and society.” - says Odd Egil Orøy, Product Manager Tietoevry Industry.
The rules that protect you
In Europe, companies must follow some of the world’s strictest privacy laws, like GDPR. This means your invoice details and payment information are handled with care, and you have rights over your own data. But it’s not just about privacy. Accessibility laws also require that invoices and payment apps are usable by everyone, including people with disabilities. For example, Tietoevry helps our customers to redesign their credit card statement according to WCAG requirements so that visually impaired card holders can easily review and pay their bills, ensuring no one is left out.

How do your invoices stay safe?
So, what are Tietoevry doing for our customers to keep your invoices and payments secure?
- First, your invoice data is encrypted and protected — always encrypted during transmission and protected/encrypted when it’s stored. This means that even if someone intercepts the message, they can’t read or misuse your information.
- Access to your billing information is tightly controlled. Only trained and authorized staff can see your data, and all access is logged. If you ever call customer support about an invoice or payment, you can be sure that the person helping you is following strict protocols and a secure connection to billing data stored at Tietoevry.
- But what if something goes wrong? Our product has a business continuity plan (BCP) that includes risk assessment, response, recovery, and recovery procedures, and our plans are regularly tested and updated. For example, if we are hit by a ransomware attack, we can quickly resume our essential service functions and maintain or restore all customer data.
- Security isn’t a one-time job, either. Tietoevry provides public security and privacy policies through our Information Security Management System (ISMS). The policies are supported with wide range of mandatory rules on different aspects of data protection and information security. Providing a certified selected scope of utilizing the following international standards ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 20000 and ISO 14001.
