Tietoevry’s Sustainability Statement 2024: focus on climate action, ethical conduct and social impact

Published: 04 March 2025

Tietoevry’s Sustainability Statement has been published today as part of the company’s Annual Report 2024. The year marks a significant shift in Tietoevry’s sustainability reporting, as we align with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).

“This Sustainability Statement provides comprehensive and transparent insights into Tietoevry’s sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities – aligned with the regulatory frameworks. Tietoevry’s Sustainability Pledge, launched in 2024, is our long-term plan focusing on areas where we can have the biggest impact: climate action, ethical conduct and social impact,” says Tomi Hyryläinen, Chief Financial Officer at Tietoevry.

“We have made firm progress towards our targets during 2024. Some notable successes include reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions and advancing our commitment to the ethical use of technology – in particular, Responsible AI. We have also made progress in promoting diversity and inclusion within our workforce,” says Ida Bohman Steenberg, Chief Sustainability Officer at Tietoevry.

Advancing in climate action, Responsible AI and diversity

In 2024, Tietoevry achieved an 87% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (scope 1 and 2) in its own operations, with 2020 as the base year. This marks an improvement from 84% in 2023. The company aims to achieve a 90% GHG reduction by 2026.

Additionally, 99% of the electricity used in our data centers and offices worldwide comes from renewable sources, maintaining the previous year’s level and keeping us on track to achieve our 100% target for 2026.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved Tietoevry’s emission reduction targets.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) provides Tietoevry with the opportunity to lead in innovation and trust, but use of the technology requires careful consideration of risks related to bias, privacy and ethics. To address this, we have developed a new mandatory and company-wide e-learning on Responsible AI. During the year, 97% of Tietoevry’s 23,000 employees globally completed the training to learn about our standards and best practices for the ethical use of AI.

Tietoevry has set the target of achieving 37% new female hires by 2025. We reached the level of 34% for 2024. This is thanks to inclusive recruitment campaigns, training and increased awareness of diversity, equity and inclusion among recruiters and hiring managers. Additionally, our recruitment process aims to favour competence by minimizing unconscious bias. Aligned with the company values of openness, trust and diversity, this topic continues to be high on our agenda.

Looking ahead – continued commitment to sustainability

In 2025, we will continue to focus on the sustainability topics identified as having the most significant impact for people, the planet, and Tietoevry’s business. At the same time, we remain committed to improving in all areas towards our long-term ambitions, such as further reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting and upholding a culture of diversity, equity and inclusivity.

New targets will be considered and introduced along the way, to ensure we maintain our high ambition level and continue to strengthen our Sustainability Pledge.

“We are not alone in driving our ambitious sustainability goals. Being part of a sector enabling the green transition, we can make a positive impact together with our customers,” Bohman Steenberg concludes.
