Tietoevry Create is happy to welcome EVN AG, a major player in the energy sector, as our new client. The goal of our collaboration is to rethink and update EVN’s complex reporting and data landscape – making it fit and scalable for the future growth. We developed a scalable Data Lakehouse based on Microsoft Azure and Databricks, with the project encompassing IoT integration as well as design of Data Mesh architecture and a robust governance model.

Key technologies from the Databricks ecosystem are used: Delta Live Tables declaratively model and automatically orchestrate data pipelines, ensuring robust and maintainable processing, even of streaming data. Streaming data, such as from EVN Naturkraft's wind turbines and photovoltaic systems, is processed in near real time, enabling live monitoring and immediate responses to operational deviations. Data objects, permissions, and metadata are managed via the Unity Catalog, which ensures centralized and secure data governance across all workspaces. A consistent CI/CD process has been established for development automation and quality assurance.

Previously, we implemented projects for EVN Naturkraft (a subsidiary of EVN AG), utilizing data from their wind and solar power plants. The solution enables standardized reporting, real-time monitoring, and AI-powered analytics based on over 80,000 data points per second. Our team also helped to select a central IoT gateway featuring a comprehensive security concept.
