Sparebanken Norge and Tietoevry Banking form strategic partnership to drive innovation in Norwegian banking
Published: 07 April 2025
Tietoevry Banking has entered a strategic partnership with Sparebanken Norge to deliver next-generation banking technology, aimed at strengthening the bank’s competitiveness in an increasingly digital market. The agreement also grants Sparebanken Norge access to deep digital banking expertise, further cementing its position as a leading force in financial innovation in Norway.
The new bank, created through the merger of Sparebanken Vest and Sparebanken Sør, is now the country’s largest savings bank, with 1,500 dedicated employees focused on delivering best-in-class financial services. With 67 local branches and a robust digital footprint, Sparebanken Norge is well positioned to scale its operations and expand its impact. Tietoevry Banking will play a key role in helping the bank realize significant synergies from the merger, including the rollout of a modernized, shared core banking platform.
Elevating the customer experience
Under the agreement, Sparebanken Norge will gain access to advanced payment and card technologies, cutting-edge fraud monitoring solutions, and tools to combat financial crime. All digital banking services are designed to meet the highest standards of security, compliance, and operational stability. The agreement runs for five years, with the option to extend for two additional two-year terms.
“Sparebanken Norge aims to be a proactive and trusted partner to our customers. By combining strong local roots with modern digital solutions, we’re able to support customers in key moments of their lives. Technology is key to ensuring low-complexity operations and continued product and service innovation. This partnership gives us access to the tools and expertise we need to realize our ambition: becoming one of Norway’s most dynamic financial institutions across both retail and corporate markets,” said Jan Erik Kjerpeseth, incoming CEO of Sparebanken Norge.
Collaboration, agility, and innovation
A core element of the partnership is a joint operating model that encourages close collaboration, fast decision-making, and accelerated time-to-market for new digital services. One of the first focus areas is digital loan processing. The partnership will also support stronger regional cooperation in the Bergen area.
“Sparebanken Norge is a forward-leaning partner, committed to shaping the future of banking in Norway. Through close dialogue and agile execution, we’ll develop digital services that support a strong advisory role and local presence – enhancing the customer experience while giving bank employees smarter tools to focus on value-added services,” said Endre Rangnes, Managing Director of Tietoevry Banking.
“This partnership provides us with an end-to-end technology platform and modular solutions tailored for the needs of tomorrow’s bank – where usability, quality, and secure delivery are non-negotiable,” added Jan Veikko Granroth, Head of business Development of Sparebanken Sør and Jon Erik Solheim, CIO of Sparebanken Vest.
